The Aaron L. Lamar, Jr. Student Leadership Scholarship was established in an effort to honor Aaron Lamar, Jr., Ed.D., who served UAB for 25 years as the Associate Vice President and Dean of Students. While Dean Lamar certainly valued scholarship, he greatly valued the total development of students through their involvement in co-curricular and community activities. He also valued the diversity of the collegiate environment, believing that this was integral to the education process. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a degree seeking program at UAB. Undergraduate senior students must be returning as a full-time UAB student. Applicants must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated active participation and leadership in extracurricular and community activities. Active participation in organizations and activities promoting diversity is an important element in the application and selection process. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation from a person who can comment on the applicant's leadership on campus and/or in the UAB or Birmingham community. Applicants being considered for this award will be required to interview with members of the selection committee. Applicants will be notified if selected for an interview.
