The Herbert Fernandes Memorial Scholarship is for those who have a GPA of 3.5 or 3.0 if taking or have taken Portuguese Language courses. Applicants must also meet at least one of the following requirements: (1.) Actively involved in a Portuguese American community; and (2) Have taken Portuguese language classes at the college level. Applicants must be of Portuguese or Lusophone descent. They must provide proof of study in the Portuguese language or culture. Applicants must meet one of the following options; (1) They are attending a community or four-year college or university. (2) They are enrolled in a Graduate Program (i.e. Masters, PhD, Credential Program). (3) They are educators in the field of Portuguese language and/or Lusophone culture. (4) They are preparing for a professional career where the use of the Portuguese language may be used. Applications may be submitted online, through mail, or in person.
