The Dr. D. Walter Cohen Teaching Award was created to assist beginning periodontal educators in launching their career. The award is not to be used to replace support that would have normally been provided by the recipient's institution. The award should be considered a supplement to any salary, stipend or research support. Award candidates must be in their third year of a nonmilitary accredited periodontal post-doctoral training program in the United States as of the application deadline, and intend to pursue a career in full-time periodontal teaching and research in the United States. The selection of recipients will be based on their strong interest in periodontal education, which is the primary qualification. In addition, the selected candidates must demonstrate excellent character, integrity, a record of academic and personal achievements, and an aptitude for teaching and research. Please visit the award's website or contact the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation for more information.
