The Lillian Moller Gilbreth Memorial Scholarship was established by the Society's Board of Trustees in 1958. It honors a woman often called the "First Lady of Engineering." She inspired many young ladies in engineering with delightful stories, charm, fortitude and forward thinking. This scholarship will be given to E and ET majors. The scholarship is renewable for 1 year for a junior continuing into senior undergraduate studies. Applicants do not have to be a member of SWE to be eligible for SWE scholarships. SWE considers academic achievements, participation in extracurricular or volunteer activities, and interest in engineering. Those who identify as a woman and pursue an ABET-accredited program may apply for this scholarship. A personal reference and STEM reference are required. The personal reference must be a person who has known the applicant for two or more years and who is not a relative or member of the applicant's family. For the STEM reference, it is highly recommended that the reference be someone in a STEM field who is familiar with the applicant's academic work.
