The Anne S. Chatham Fellowship in Medicinal Botany aims to protect, preserve and expand knowledge about the medicinal use of plants, thus preventing the disappearance of plants with therapeutic potential. Providing this research opportunity for botanists can, in turn, assist medical science to develop therapies that improve the quality of life of patients and develop life-saving medicines. This fellowship is open to students currently and actively enrolled in PhD programs at recognized universities and PhD graduates who have received their degrees in the last five years. To apply for the fellowship, applicants must submit a brief application letter; an abstract ; a research proposal; a budget that explains how funds would be used; a current curriculum vitae for graduate students; a letter from a major advisor certifying enrollment in a PhD program; and copies of permits for field work or studies including animals, research clearances, and permission from governmental agencies for foreign research. Applications may be submitted through email or mail to Dr. Wendy Applequist at the Missouri Botanical Garden. Please visit the scholarship's website for more information.
