The Steven M. Thompson Physician Corps Loan Repayment Program (STLRP) was established to increase access to healthcare and promote the retention of primary care physicians in medically underserved areas (MUAs) of California. Eligible applicants may receive loan repayments in exchange for a 36-month service obligation practicing and providing direct patient care in a qualified facility or area in California. To be eligible for an STLRP award, each applicant must possess a valid and unrestricted MD or DO license to practice their profession in California; be in good standing with the Medical Board of California or the Osteopathic Medical Board of California; and have unpaid educational loans. STLRP participants must practice in one of the following, but not limited to, disciplines and specialties in California: Primary Care Specialties: Family Medicine, General Internal Medicine, General Pediatrics, and Obstetrics/Gynecology; Specialties Outside of Primary Care: Gerontology, Psychiatry, Emergency Medicine, and Surgery.
