The Pacific Health Research Postdoctoral Fellowship provides support for outstanding graduates who have recently completed a degree at doctoral level and who propose to conduct research in any discipline related to improving the health of Pacific peoples. Applicants must be of indigenous Pacific descent. Applicants also need to have a proven track record of research in the area of Pacific health development, hold a degree of doctor of philosophy (or an equivalent degree), and not have had more than five years of postdoctoral experience. If the applicant hasn't received the results of their thesis examination, they can still apply. Pacific Health Research Postdoctoral Fellowships are tenable within New Zealand universities, hospitals or other research institutions approved by Council. The institution, department and supervisor must be approved by the HRC and should not usually be the department or institution in which the research leading to the award of a doctorate was performed. The applicants must have first-class qualifications and demonstrate consistently high grades, technically and academically outstanding. The applicant's research must demonstrate (A) the potential to significantly advance knowledge relevant to the health of the Pacific, (B) comprehensively address a Pacific health priority, and (C) can be expected to contribute substantially to Pacific workforce development or intellectual capital.
