1st Financial Bank USA wants to celebrate those who recognize the importance of pursuing educational and financial goals with the 1st Financial Bank USA Financial Goals Scholarship.
The Maria Elena Salinas Scholarship, our longest running scholarship, is made possible through a donation from NAHJ founding member Maria Elena Salinas. Formerly exclusively for students desiring a career in Spanish-language journalism, it is now offered to students pursuing careers in either English or Spanish-language. Scholarships are granted to graduate and undergraduate students who plan to work in English and/or Spanish-language journalism on whichever platform they choose. Students attending four-year colleges and community colleges in the United States and Puerto Rico are eligible for the scholarships. Students pursuing Spanish-language journalism must submit their essay in Spanish. Applicants must submit two references from people who are familiar with their academic and/or journalism work. Letters from relatives will not be accepted. Applicants must also submit work samples in print, broadcast, audio, photo and/or multimedia work samples. Please limit it to three. Please visit the scholarship's website or contact the NAHJ for more information.
