The Sarnoff Fellowship Program offers medical students enrolled in accredited U.S. medical schools the opportunity to spend a year conducting intensive work in a biomedical research facility in the United States. Fellows are selected on the basis of a national competition. Sarnoff seeks individuals with demonstrated intellectual and academic achievement, as well as leadership ability. The Scientific Committee places major emphasis on the applicant's interest in a career in research; likelihood of providing the applicant with an intensive, rewarding research experience; and letters of recommendation. Although applicants may have prior research experience, applications are also encouraged from students without extensive prior research experience. Applicants enrolled in an MD/PhD program will not be eligible. Applications are encouraged from second and third year medical students. Fourth year medical students are required to submit an official letter from their medical schools granting graduation deferment. The Sarnoff Foundation is committed to promoting diversity in the biomedical and scientific community. We strongly encourage applicants from members of underrepresented or historically disadvantaged backgrounds. The Sarnoff Cardiovascular Research Foundation takes a broad view of cardiovascular research including but not limited to the cardiovascular system, brain health including stroke, cardio-obstetrics, cardio-oncology, cardiometabolic disease, cardiorenal and vascular medicine. The types of research that Sarnoff supports includes basic, clinical, translational and epidemiologic investigations. A recommendation from the applicant's Sponsor must be submitted. Two additional recommendations are also required. Please visit the fellowship's website for more information.
