The Sigma/Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Grant aims to encourage qualified nurses to conduct research related to perioperative nursing practice and contribute to the development of perioperative nursing science. All relevant research topics will be considered although priority will be given to research studies that relate to the AORN research priorities. To be eligible, the principal investigator is required to be a registered nurse (with a current license) in the perioperative setting or a registered nurse who demonstrates interest in or significant contributions to perioperative nursing practice. The principal investigator must have, at a minimum, a master's degree in nursing. Membership in either organization is acceptable but not required. The body of the research proposal should include the abstract and an introduction which includes the purpose statement to include a description of how the study is linked to the AORN Research Priorities; background and relevant literature review; research questions or hypotheses; and significance of study to perioperative nursing. Applicants must also submit letters of support from any consultants who will be involved in the project; any other researchers or institutions collaborating with the project; and an administrator of the institution employing the PI or the supervising faculty member if the project is a student research study. The list of eligible research topics is on the website. Please visit the scholarship's website or contact the Sigma Theta Tau International for more information.
